As the global demand for TNT surges due to ongoing conflicts, new initiatives are emerging to strengthen the defense supply chain. Finland has announced plans to build a major TNT factory in Pori, led by explosives manufacturer Forcit. There are only two key manufacturers that produce TNT in Europe, therefore the region still faces capacity constraints, prompting the need for this new facility.
The U.S. is also re-establishing TNT production with a facility in Kentucky, set to be operational by 2028 (Awarded to Repcon USA).

Why the Demand is So High?
Ongoing conflicts, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, have driven unprecedented demand for ammunition. Artillery shells, tank ammunition, bombs, missiles, and other explosives that require large quantities of TNT are being produced and deployed at record levels, leading to global supply shortages.

Defense Applications of TNT
TNT is essential in various military munitions, including:
1. Artillery shells (e.g., 155mm, 152mm)
2. Tank ammunition (e.g 105mm, 120mm)
3. Bombs, mortar shells, and missile warheads
4. Mines (anti-tank, anti-personnel, and naval)
5. Demolition charges

Key Global Manufacturers (except for Russia that is a significant producer of TNT for its own military needs):
🏭Accurate Energetic Systems, LLC (AES) - USA
🏭NITRO-CHEM S.A. – Poland
🏭NOF Corporation - Japan
🏭EPC Groupe - France (mostly emulsion explosives and ANFO)
🏭Anhui Jiangnan Chemical Ltd. - China.
🏭Kailong Chemical and Leiming Kehua - China.
🏭Munitions India Limited (MIL) – India
🏭Solar Industries Limited – India
🏭Special Blasts Limited (SBL) – India

With TNT prices now at $10,200 per tonne, securing a stable supply chain has become a strategic priority for defense industries worldwide.
